Attorney Profiles

Patricia J. Schraff

Patricia J. Schraff, received her B.A. Degree from John Carroll University in 1973, her M.S.S.A. from Case Western University, School of Applied Social Sciences in 1977, and her J.D. Degree from Cleveland State University College of Law in 1980. Ms. Schraff is a member of the Geauga County Bar Association, the Lake County Bar Association, the Cleveland Bar Association, the Ohio State Bar Association and a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys.

She is the immediate Past President of the Board of The Long Term Care Ombudsman and President of the Board of the Lake County Council On Aging. She is also a member of the Association of Specialists on Aging and past Board member of The Alzheimer’s Association. Ms. Schraff is also the attorney for the Geauga County Department on Aging and a volunteer attorney for the Cuyahoga County Adult Guardianship Services.

Ms. Schraff’s practice is concentrated in the areas of elder law, estate planning and administration and probate matters. She is a member of the Ohio State Bar Association Probate and Trust Law and Elder Law Sections, the Cleveland Bar Association Section on Estate Planning and is co-chair of the Lake County Bar Association Probate Committee. She is also a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys and its Guardianship Special Interest Group.

Ms. Schraff was recently recognized as an individual who has worked to “improve public programs and policies to advance the health, independence and dignity of older adults” as a winner of the 2009 BRI Katz Advocacy Award sponsored by the Benjamin Rose Institute.


David M. King

David M. King received his B.A. degree with a major in Economics from the College of Wooster in 1981 and his J.D. degree from Capital University Law School in 1984. Mr. King is a member of the Geauga County, Lake County and Ohio State Bar Associations.

Mr. King is a member of the Litigation Section of the Ohio State Bar Association and the Association of Specialists on Aging.

Mr. King’s practice is concentrated in the areas of general business law, including the formation, sale and purchase of various business entities, commercial transactions, contract drafting and negotiation, real estate, zoning, and civil litigation.


Allison Mantz McMeechan

Allison’s practice is concentrated in the areas of estate planning and administration, Medicaid, elder law, guardianships, special needs trusts, and probate matters. Allison joined Schraff and King as an associate in April 2005. Allison has published articles and has spoken in the areas of probate, estate planning, government benefits, and special needs trusts. Her audiences include bar associations, non-profit associations, and other professional organizations.

Allison is a former Trustee of the Cuyahoga County Bar Association, and a current member of the Ohio State Bar Association’s Probate and Trust Law Committee, Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association’s Young Lawyers and Estate Planning, Probate, and Trust Law Sections, Lake County Bar Association Probate Committee, Association of Specialists on Aging, and Consortium Against Adult Abuse Executive Board.

Allison received her B.A. degree with a major in Criminal Justice Studies from the University of Dayton in 1999 and her J.D. degree from Cleveland Marshall College of Law in 2004. Allison was Executive Editor of Cleveland Marshall’s Journal of Law and Health and her Note, Do Not Resuscitate Decision Making: Ohio’s Do Not Resuscitate Law Should be Amended to Include a Mature Minor’s Right to Initiate a DNR Order, was published in 2005, Volume 17, Issue 2 of the Journal.


John P. Thomas

John P. Thomas received his B.A. degree from Boston College in 2002 in Political Science and Economics, and received his J.D. degree from Cleveland Marshall College of Law in 2005.

Mr. Thomas is on the Board of Directors of the Boston College Alumni Association in Cleveland, and a member of the St. Ignatius High School Alumni Association. He is also a member of the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association, Lake County Bar Association, Ohio Bar Association, and American Bar Association.

Mr. Thomas is admitted to practice before the Courts of the State of Ohio, the U.S. District Courts for the Northern and Southern Districts of Ohio, the U.S. Bankruptcy Courts for the Northern and Southern District Courts of Ohio, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.

Mr. Thomas concentrates his practice in the areas of business litigation and probate litigation, and he has been named a 2010 Rising Star in Ohio Super Lawyers.
